  • What is Dito Directory and how does it fit into my business?
    • Dito Directory is a contact manager that allows your business to easily manage domain shared contacts. Currently there is no easy way from within Google's own contacts to manage domain wide contacts. Dito Directory is a simple tool that allows your company to easily manage internal and external domain wide contacts
  • What exactly is the difference between Dito Directory and Google Mail contacts?
    • Dito Directory is a domain shared contacts manager while Google Mail contacts consists of your personal individual contacts. Google Mail does pull in domain shared contacts but does not provide the same administrator tools that dito directory offers. Dito Directory is at its core and admins tool to better manage company wide (domain shared) contacts, both internal and external contacts.
  • Does Dito Directory support Groups?
    • Yes! The new version (1.1) has read only support for groups.
  • How do I get Groups working and do I have to do anything to upgrade to v1.1?
    • You do not need to take any actions to upgrade to the new version. You do have to contact your domain administrator to update the Data Access Requirements for Directory in your domain control panel. Follow these steps to do just this:
    1. Open your Domain control panel
    2. Under Dito Directory there will be a red string of text that says "Update Data Access Requirements". Click "View and Grant Access" and you will be taken to the Directory admin page.
    3. Under "Data Access" click "Grant Data Access".
    4. Finally, launch Directory and Groups should be fully functional.
  • Does DIto Directory work with Google Apps Standard edition?
    • The api's needed to make Dito Directory work are only available in the Premiere and education version.
  • I created a group in "My Contacts" why is it not in Directory?
    • The Groups functionality in Dito Directory pulls groups from your domains instance of Google Groups. The groups created in Google Groups will show up in your Directory application. However the groups you create within you own "My Contacts" will only be visible to you in your Google Mail instance. Google Groups is available under the "More" menu at the top of your Google Mail page.
  • If I want to have one of my users add and edit contacts do I have to make them a domain admin first?
    • Yes, currently the permissions within DIto Directory are directly related to those set up on your domain. Only domain admins can edit, delete and add contacts. We will be adding granular permissions that are separate from the domain at a future date. This functionality is currently in the pipe line.
  • Can I use Dito Directory in Internet Explorer?
  • How do I get my contacts into a Google Spreadsheet?
  • I am a domain administrator, how do I delete contacts?
    • To delete a single contact, click on the Edit button on the contact pane and then click Delete in the bottom right corner.
    • To delete all contacts click Settings and then Delete All.
  • Why do the contacts have to load each time I use the application?
    • Dito Directory does not store your contact information locally.  It pulls directly from the domain shared contacts API each time.
  • How many contacts can I have in Dito Directory?
    • Currently the API that is used to connect to Google contacts has a 25,000 contacts cap. Google is working on adjusting this number with the hope of removing any and all constraints in the future.
    Limits
ijoijnphijonThe following summarizes the constraints that apply to the Shared Contacts Data API:
A single shared contact list may not contain more than 25000 entries. We are working to remove this limitation soon.
A single shared contact may not contain more than 2KB of data. (Note, however, that the total XML that represents the shared contact can be larger than 2KB.)
A response will be truncated if it exceeds 10MB in length.
One batch request may not include more than 100 operations.
Changes can take up to 24 hours to be reflected in the email address auto-complete and the contact manager.
  • Why can't I add, edit, or delete any contact information?
    • You must be a domain administrator in Google Apps in order to add, edit, or delete contact information.
  • Why aren't my domain shared contacts showing in Google Apps?
    • It takes up to 24 hours for domain shared contacts to show up in the Google Apps interface.
  • It's been well over 24 hours and my contacts are still not showing in Google Apps, even though they exist in Dito Directory. Why?
    • Though this happens very infrequently, the cause for this is usually that Provisioning API is not enabled. To enable it, access your domain's Admin Control Panel, and click "Domain settings", then "User settings. You should see a checkbox for enabling the Provisioning API. Ensure it is checked, and click save changes. Within 24 hours, your contacts should be appearing on your domain.
  • What is the difference between Contacts and User Profiles?
    • Contacts are external contacts shared by everyone at your domain. User Profiles contain internal contact information for your domain users.
  • Why can't I edit domain User Profiles?
    • User profiles can only be edited by domain administrators using the Pro version of Dito Directory.
  • What does Copy to My Contacts do?
    • The Copy to My Contacts button copies a single contact directly to your personal contacts, instantly.
  • Copy to My Contacts keeps telling me to upgrade. What gives?
    • Copy to My Contacts is a Pro feature.  You must upgrade to gain access to this functionality.
  • How will the Dito Directory appear to my users?
    • Your users can view Dito Directory directly if they choose it from the 'More' menu at the top of their Google Mail page. The Pro version will allow users to copy domain shared contacts contained in directory to their personal google mail contacts (under the 'my contacts' link in google mail contacts). In google mail contacts additional information that was added in dito directory will appear just under the contacts detail for that specific contact. When a user sends an email to one of the domain shared contacts it will appear in the autofill box.
